Help - my renewal quote doubled !!

Post by Ashok » Tue Oct 24, 2023 6:27 pm

Shocked to receive my insurance renewal today and the premium has DOUBLED !!
Nothing has changed in my circumstances and I do everything possible to keep this reasonable (tracker, high excess, safe area, correct declared value & mileage). Has anyone else experienced this and could you recommend a broker to contact for an alternative quotation? Thanks in advance.

I have personally Used A Plan Thatcham and OneCall insurance (surprisingly good). Their prices are consistent and not had price hikes....on a more lighter note - do you think it was because you parked next to that blacked out windowed XD3 at denbies earlier in the year

I don't know who you are insured with Ashok, but I have been with LV for ever, this years premium for my B3S BT Cab was £30 more than last year.

I also obtained a quote from them for a M6 GC I was thinking of buying, came in at a very reasonable £620.

Worth a try.

I've been having a similar experience. My B5 came up for renewal a couple of months back and the current insurer said they could no longer quote for it. The best quote I could get was with Aviva and that was nearly double.

The B4 has now just come up, and again the insurer (this time Churchill) have written to say they won't quote. I checked some comparison sites the weekend and it looks like going from £350 to nearly £700.

What is going on? Like Ashok, none of my circumstances have changed.

Brian - I was actually with LV for a while with the B5 but they were another company who stopped the policy and said they could no longer quote..... It's a joke.

This is true of everyone I speak to now with all cars, from Audi A6’s to Minis, friends and people at work saying their renewals have nearly or more than doubled. Insurers blaming it on cost of repairs, both parts and labour. Which while true the hikes they are imposing are a joke and it’s industry wide so nowhere is cheaper either!!!

Can’t wait for renewal time…

Yes, a sick one!
I about died when Brunhilds renewal came through. £640 up'd to £1070. 60 odd yrs old, 10 yrs NCD, clean licence 30 yrs years+, advanced driver, tracker, driveway, good postcode etc, etc. Shopped around, refused point blank by several big names plus half a dozen "what's an Alpina?" inc' the RAC with that one. Admiral quoted £1100 but wanted a black box! Erm yes, right ho.
Best alternatives were just over a grand but the cover levels were nowhere near existing. Stayed with LV for 3rd year running. Obscene IMHO.

So, I got my quote for my classic car insurance for by E39 B10 3.3 Touring and '93 Saab 900 Turbo. Up 41%. Not doubled, I grant you, but very unwelcome all the same.

I suppose I'm going to have to start ringing around for alternative quotes. Not fun and so time consuming.

My insurance also went up this year, but after shopping around the renewal was actually the best option.
I'm with Admiral.

I kept reading these massive insurance premium horror stories and therefore was anticipating an issue when my B7 was due. I renewed yesterday with Howdens aka A Plan Thatcham, net result a 60 per annum increase. Now I will wait for June 2024 when my M235i is due, insured via this same broker with the same underwriter West Bay Insurance Plc.

My renewal is due on the 17th March so should be receiving a quote in a week or so. I paid £361 last year. I'll brace myself for this years quote.
