Spare wheel

Post by Card » Mon Sep 12, 2011 11:03 pm

Hi guys

Has anyone gone out and bought a spare wheel for there D3?

Have they found a space saver or gone for a steel wheel if so what size and combination of tyre.

Only asking as got a big journey to south of France and want some sort of spare?

Any help would be useful thanks.

I think a few have acquired a Porsche space saver with a spacer.

I'm sure they'll be along shortly 8)

There is a BMW unit - I believe vblanche has one (may be wrong... ). There is definitely one showing on realOEM.

Porsche PCD is different to BMW.

The E46 compact runs a space saver that might fit the bill.

I, indeed, went for the BMW spare wheel, Set emergency wheel with tyre (P/N 36 11 0 445 045), paid £80.

Thanks for that I ordered the BMW set with that part number, but calling it a set seems a bit of a stretch of the imagination from BMW as it's just wheel.

What's the point of a emergency set with no jack and no wheel brace?

Or have they just made a mistake on my order?

Guys, im looking at space saver option & noticed this official part
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=382545

Will this work in conjunction with D3 19" alloys? Does it look like a good solution?

Thanks

Have you seen the one Vince acquired? Think that's cheaper and will fit. The one you noted is fine diameter-wise and will clear the brakes but I don't know if the small offset compared to your wheels would cause a problem anywhere. My 1st inclination would be to say it'll be fine as it sits closer to the body than the brakes with that 8mm offset.

To be honest, any spare wheel of this type will 'work' within the confines of a 'biscuit spare' to get you home. You wouldn't want to be running around on it for very long, so its impact with your 19" wheels is irrelevant as long as you drive within its specified limits.

As Joe says a few of us have a Boxster space saver spare wheel.
As Araf points out the PCD is different but we use a spacer/adapter that allows the Porsche wheel to fit the BMW hub.
This was done circa three years ago and the BMW wheel/jack kit has come on the scene since by popular demand
If you check out Mac's post he has it covered with pictures too!
