1200 mile running in service

Post by James7 » Thu Aug 25, 2011 11:15 pm

Hi folks

Looking for some more help please. I realise that the 1200 running in service is very important for M cars as BMW will not take on warranty work unless it has been carried out. Are all Alpina models required to have a 1200 mile running in service carried out?

I'm currently looking at 2 different B10 V8's and one has had the 1200 mile running in service carried out whilst the other hasn't. Both cars are in the region of being 13-14 years old with 60k miles and 80k miles on them. If the running in service is required, does it make such a big difference with cars that are this age and with the above stated mileages if it hasn't been carried out?

Your knowledge and advice would be much appreciated.

James

I've never heard of an ALPINA not being covered by warranty if it hasn't had the 1200 mile service done.

Anyway, at the age and mileage of the cars you are looking at, I don't suppose it makes one jot of difference.

Some m-cars came with a special running-in oil which had to be replaced at 1200 miles to avoid damage to the engine. So missing it is a big no-no.

I don't think Alpina ever went down that route.

Thanks for the responses guys. Sits easier with me now knowing that missing the 1200 mile running in service isn't such a big issue compared to M cars.
