1996 B3 3.2

Post by Trouble » Wed Jul 06, 2011 9:10 pm

Hi,

I've been offered a 1996 B3 3.2 with supercharger. It's been in storage for 5 years.

Bought for 16k nine years ago. I need to make him an offer but can't find anything of this spec to compare.

Any ideas?

Also, not sure what to think about it coming out of storage and sorting it out, anyone got experience of what to expect will need doing?

I've got some Q's about insurance too, but I'll put another post in the right section.

Cheers

There was an ACS3 for £10k, about a year ago. It was a lot newer, but on older cars, condition is king.

I wouldn't value an Alpina with an s/c much differently to a standard car, and would probably strip the supercharger off and sell it separately - unless low-comp pistons have been installed.

I would therefore think £3-6k, depending on condition.

I would agree with Araf, valuation on condition is the only way. The supercharger wouldn't be my cup of tea either. Is it an aftermarket item professionally installed or has the owner 'played' with it, if the latter I'd be wary of anything else.

The e36 B3 3.2's are getting low now, so if its been in the garage and needs recommisioning then maybe between £2 & £3k?

Thanks for your comments guys.

The current owner still has the bits that came off when the supercharger went on. They were put in the boot when it went in storage!

I was actually considering putting it back to original spec. a. I'm not sure I'd make use of it, and b, it would hopefully help reduce the insurance a bit and c, I never considered selling the supercharger but this could claw a few pennies back. I would also sell the personalised number plate which means nothing to me and buy a cheaper one!

Any comments on my post about insurance would be welcome..

I wouldn't turbo a B3 3.2 but a supercharger is cool, I have often thought about it.

IMO unlike a turbo a supercharger will only give extra power.

Yeah, but no but, yeah but......

Only for curiosity's sake, if you don't mind. I've got too much on my plate already, without toying with the idea of supercharging.
