If it can be arranged, would you like to take part in an Alpina-fest at Donnington Circuit?

Alpina-fest @ Donnington

Post by Charles » Fri May 12, 2006 1:58 pm

Linked to a concurrent thread in this section "ALPINA meet with track time? Feedback please", I have started this thread in order to look at the feasibility of organising a major get together for Alpina owners/drivers/lovers

As luck would have it, I popped in and had a coffee with Ged on Monday afternoon. As well as talking about "stuff" I asked about another track day - perhaps to showcase the B6 and D3.

Ged was interested but hadn't really thought too much about it.

However, he indicated that if we can get enough interested people together, he can help us leverage a good rate at Donnington for a few hours one summer evening. Price per car would depend on how many cars (as there is a flat rate to hire the circuit).

This got me thinking. The last track session had a wide range of cars and drivers from the BMW stable (including some "muscular, T-shirt wearing bejewelled M3 drivers" to quote an unnamed but highly respected Alpina source of mine).

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could arrange an "Alpinafest" at Donnington.

We currently have several hundred members and their cars on the register and I would love to see an Alpina-only track session with 40 or so cars at the event. If that were to happen then we could probably generate some involvement, not only from Sytner, but more importantly from Buchloe. The potential publicity would be great and it's the sort of event that could get various magazines and/or TV shows interested - if handled well.

For those who have never "tracked" their car - don't panic. It's not about hooning about being stupid. I believe a sensible track session for sensible drivers would be great fun.

I am happy to take a lead in the organisation of such an event - including PR and involvement from Buchloe and Sytner - but I need to know whether you are interested (in principle) with such an idea.

You can certainly count me in, have not been round Donnington for a long time.

Hope you can organise something.

would be interested but would have to be in my 330.. as the B11's not the sort of thing that would appreciate a track too much (plus as i'm selling it - i may not even still own it...)

mind you the 330's quite capable having just returned from the ring at Easter...

I'd certainly be interested, as I've never done a track day and it sounds great.

It would really be down to timing as to whether I could attend, but put me down as an "interested".

Charles, I'd be up for watching but not running. It would be nice to see some Alps churning round the track. I know of a responsible set of Vauxhall drivers (not idiots) that would love to come along if you need to make the numbers up to get the price reasonable. It would be many LC's but a few GSi's and Senators along with a mad Monza.
Regards,

James

i'd like to do this, never driven on track in the UK. Is donny bad for noise?
my C2 isn't too quiet tbh.

if i can get the engine running better, then give it some grief for a few months and then rebuild no.2 :?

Would be interested if my car is in sufficiently good order to run by then; currently, leaky fuel tank and exhaust would preclude it...

At this stage I'm just guaging interest.

Also, as I said before, it's not about going flat out - I just have this vision of a fleet of Alpinas circulating around Donnington at whatever speed the owner chooses to do :D

So let me know and if we get enough initial interest then I'll get things happening

track driving is great fun regardless of how quick u want to go, but the car needs to be in good mechanical shape otherwise any faults etc come to light very quickly!
