| I have booked my D3 in for work on the door seals. They sound very creaky and I have tried the lubricant "gummiflege" but the sound always comes back. I hear its a common E90/1 problem anyone else had the same trouble? |

They had that problem on the early E39s. They changed the door seal designs. Can't recall what they did for the first design change but it didn't work. The second design change was the addition of a flock covering on the outer door seals where they touched the door frame, which did the trick. _________________ Graham

Gummiflege works well on my E39 although the crucial place to use it is on the felt seals at the top and not just on the rubbers. Not sure if you have anything similar?
I never had a creak or groan from the E34's I owned so this is called progress!!! _________________ Jim

You are not alone with the creaking door seals. I have a late E39 and suffer from the problem on all four doors. The aforementioned redesign did nothing for my car. I posted about this previously:
http://thealpinaregister.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3274&highlight=
I never found the gummiflege product. Is it still available anywhere? Perhaps the BMW branded product is the same stuff, although it's expensive. However, I never liked the idea of applying gooey stuff to the door in case of rubbing against it getting in and out of the car.
I asked my indy about the problem and they tried some softener on the rubber (can't remember what it's called) but that made no difference. The next step as far as they are concerned is to replace all door rubbers (and possibly the felt) but they are reluctant to do this as it's "very expensive" and "not guaranteed to work". Not exactly music to my ears.
I was intending to try the BMW product, but am reluctant to keep applying different chemicals to the rubber (and felt?) in case I make the problem worse. _________________ 2003 B10 3.3 Touring Switchtronic #69 |

The gummiflege product soaks into the seals fairly quickly and so does not leave a gooey coating which can obviously get on your clothes if you rub against the seals.
The last time I enquired about it from my dealer I was advised it is no longer available although I believe other members of the board have still acquired it. I am now off out to my garage to see if I can find a part number for it and if so I will post it. _________________ Jim

Right, it is called Gummi-Pflege and the part number appears to be 82 149 407 015 and the price on the lid £5.70 although that was a few years ago. As I said earlier it has worked 100% for me but the bad news is that I have only a little left so if it still exists than I need to get some more. Hope this helps. _________________ Jim

Brilliant, thanks for that. Looks like you can get it here: http://www.einszett.co.uk/products_einszett_interior-exterior.htm
I'm going to order a couple of bottles. I've seen quite a few other positive comments about this stuff from having a quick search around. Can't hurt for only a tenner. I'm crossing my fingers and will let you know if it helps. _________________ 2003 B10 3.3 Touring Switchtronic #69 |

Good luck and thanks for letting me know where i can get some more from, i didn't realise it was available outside of the dealer network.
The price is good too, my BMW supplied one was only 75ml so that helps towards the postage cost. _________________ Jim

What does the door seal problem sound like?
My D3 driver's door makes an annoying noise.
Not a rattle, not a 'traditional' creaking noise either though.
More like a loud 'click' all the time.
I suspected door seals, but the passenger one is totally quiet. |

Your description is better than mine I suppose it is more like a clicking sound but mine started on the passenger side and now on the drivers to.

I obviously spoke too soon.
Today has been the chillest for a while, the driver's door is definitely making a creaking noise now...
Damn. |

Fingers crossed that since using Gummi-Pflege all I listen to now is the creaking sunroof, any suggestions for that? _________________ Jim

Weld it up.............??
Seriously though, you could try polishing the roof edges where they are turned down to mate with the sunroof, and / or apply some vinyl lubricant to the same areas.......? I got hold of some in aerosol form, good for keeping various types of seal supple on older cars.

Weld up a glass sunroof, now that could prove to be interesting!!!
Thanks for the suggestions on trying to cure the creak, I must admit I need to investigate it further than I have to date. _________________ Jim
