B3S MPG
B3S MPG
Hi All,
After owning Alpina’s previously I am looking to get back in the fold. I owned a C2 2.7 and then all B3s, 3.0, 3.2 and 3.3. The 3 litre version was always surprisingly good on fuel but the later and bigger versions were quite thirsty. My question for you all is what mpg are normally achievable for the B3 biturbo and also the B3S biturbo?
Thanks in advance
Mark

I achieve under 30 mpg unless I'm on a longer / motorway trip, probably around 28mpg in the B3 Biturbo.
This directly compares to the E46 B3s doing the same journeys at 25 mpg so it's better - but not by much.

Thanks for all your feedback.
Still not sure whether to go the Petrol or Diesel route, there is so much negativity about with regards to diesel but performance and mpg are exceptional. The govt seem to be doing their best to get them off the road by taxing fuel and making the price per litre a lot higher, a decade ago it was the other way around.

The "head" calculation should include relative cost of purchase, servicing and fuelling based on anticipated mileage. IIRC, servicing a diesel is more expensive than an equivalent petrol and whilst 50 v 35 mpg might sound attractive, the argument goes that diesel alternatives only start paying their way after about 20,000 miles pa.floz61 wrote:Thanks for all your feedback.

The "heart" is far more difficult to quantify ....

I didn't mention it and have little knowledge of these cars as I run an E46 B3S, so I can't really comment directly - sorry!floz61 wrote:Charles, I take it the B4 is the best mpg (35) that you mention.

There are not too many differences between the E92 3 and 3S, main one would be an extra 40bhpfloz61 wrote:With the B3s, what are the main differences between the B3 biturbo and B3S biturbo?
Charles, I take it the B4 is the best mpg (35) that you mention.

An extra cooling radiator, bat ear wing mirrors, rear diffuser, and an updated Sat Nav system HDD based.
I mentioned the B4, and I averaged 39mpg over two and a half years, best return I had from the B4 was a 120 mile early run to Silverstone with no traffic. OBC showed 48mpg, even Matt Stripling was amazed
Brian, some might query whether you're driving it properlyB10BRW wrote:I mentioned the B4, and I averaged 39mpg over two and a half years, best return I had from the B4 was a 120 mile early run to Silverstone with no traffic. OBC showed 48mpg, even Matt Stripling was amazed
