Roadster S - 154

Post by Aus_Pol » Fri Nov 23, 2018 6:36 pm

Anyone checked this out in person, any opinions on its history or value?

Worth the 2.5 hour trip to check it out?

Brian (zedwheels) went to see it - I don't want to put words in his mouth but he wasn't particularly impressed

If you send him a PM, I'm sure he'll give you a full rundown

Don't know any of the history on #154 apart from the fact this dealer bought it from BCA Auction in Sept.

If you're considering this one, have you looked at Roadster S #098 that Sytners are currently advertising at £15.8k. It's also a LUX in Black with Red leather with 82k. The previous owner was on here and although it's more money, there maybe a deal to be done and it's on Sytner Select which may give some confidence.

I believe they paid around 11k, but have put work into it (seating colour changed).

Not sure how much of a deal to be made, they would want their margins, they did start off at 19k.

Pretty sure it's always been Dream Red. When Cotswold Motorsport sold it to Kate, it was Red then.

Ah ok, I was going off this quote in the other thread (Kates for sale thread)
but at over £18k it may take a while to shift a black on black 82k
and your quote in the same thread
They've made it Red on Black in an effort to help it shift Wink
Love the colour combo, I've however only been in the UK 3 months and only managed to save £14k. Need another payday, also lends itself well to finding a hard top.

Also, only around a few odd weeks between Jan - March. So by the time I get back I'm sure Styner will be hoping to charge a higher spring price.

The same 4 have been for sale the whole time since I started looking in early September.

Looking for something to keep (unmolested) and take home with me to Australia in 3-4 years so that I have something different there (as opposed to a Z4M I was just about to buy before my job change).

---

Checking the MOT history seems one of the past owners 40-65k might have been a little careless with ownership.

Multiple times failing for worn tires (down to thread in one case), doesn't inspire confidence that oil and other such things were changed/checked regularly.

Sorry, my previous comment was a bit tongue in cheek, hence the winky face.

As you say, now would be a better time to buy if you can find the right car rather than spring time.

Thoughts on the MOT issues?

Surely if the owner couldn't manage keeping tires in check. Surely other things went neglected.

I would tend to agree with you on the advisories, tyres really are something you can easily check before an MOT. It does make you worry a bit about other more difficult maintenance items.

You should probably be factoring a head gasket into your budget within 10-15k miles if Charles' research is anything to go by too.

If you're looking for a decent, well looked-after RS, you need to be patient and ready to move fairly quickly. There are a few poor-condition cars that appear for sale and hang around for ages and I've noticed about 10 that keep reappearing for sale, either moved around in the trade or sold privately only to be put back up for sale fairly quickly.

Good condition cars that have been looked after tend to sell quite quickly and for decent money.

If you're lucky you'll find one that has been looked after mechanically but needs a bit of cosmetic TLC that won't cost the earth but will increase the value of the car over and above the cost of the cosmetics (as long as you're providing a lot of the elbow grease FOC).

True, unless they were doing the MOT on the way back from the track :-P
3 sets of tires in 24k miles.

So these are the main 4 places I'm looking:
  • - Here
    - motors.co.uk
    - Pistonheads
    - Autotrader
Any specific facebook groups to keep an eye on?

I'm not really a facebook person but, for the RS, it's worth keeping an eye on z4-forum.com as if people spot one for sale they'll usually post about it in the Alpina section
