E38 V12

Post by octanejunkie » Fri Sep 07, 2018 3:30 pm

Anybody had one?
Tell me your experience...
I know the E38 intimately but not the V12 version.. Any advice or experiences will be greatly appreciated. How are they to work on, reliable etc.

E24man Kevin on here has a B12 5.7 LWB
I'm sure he will be along in due course with some words of wisdom

I know with the standard BMW 5.0 V12 it didn;t offer any real advantage over the 4.0 V8 at the time or real performance benefit. Both engines got enlarged to 5.4 and 4.4 IIRC and again the V8 was the flavour of the month over the V12.

All that aside I'd love a V12 Think how good a BMW I6 engine is then sticj 2 side by side under the bonnet That's pretty much how the Mclarens F1 engine came about was 2 x 3.0 S50 engines stick together

Well i can't afford an Alpina one, but i may well look at getting in an IL.
Test drove one the other day, and i thought it was much better than the V8 which i didn't see what all the fuss was about. I personally like the 2.8 better than the V8. I did like the turbine noises from the V12... 8)

Thank you for your input guys.

for me it's the lack of fuss of the torquey V12, a gentle bit of pressure on the pedal is enough for a remarkable change in speed, but without any apparent work being done, other than a refined woofle

The V8 in my old B10 had impressive performance also (very similar to my B12 in bhp terms), but was a lot more "obvious" in delivery. Depends what you like I guess

The phone in the centre armrest would be blocked by a long load passing between the front seats.
