Alpina painted lettering on front spoiler

Post by PliSsK » Tue Aug 21, 2018 12:47 pm

What precise colour should the letter on the front spoiler be if it was done in the factory? Are there many members here that have painted the letters as a mod? TIA!

That era, I'd suggest only matt silver or gold were offered from 'factory'. Sytner, however, may have fitted the vinyl on the splitter.

Thanks for the input! You mean Sytner offered a retro fit of vinyl stick on letters?

They're all vinyl stick-on letters unless an owner had theirs painted at a body shop.

What I mean is sytner did a lot of striping/ vinyl badging of cars in the UK. Both my D3biturbo and current B3sBiturbo were striped and spoiler badged by them. I striped and badged my RS and earlier B3sBiturbo myself. Many cars are supplied to sytner from Buchloe with no striping/vinyl lettering.

Oh I see, thanks. Is the convention generally to have both vinyl stripes and vinyl letters; or neither (i.e. a single coloured front spoiler with moulded lettering)?

Down to individual choice. I started with a bare front spoiler and no side stripes, then added the Alpina letting on the front spoiler. Now I have the lettering and stripes on the front spoiler but not fitted side stripes.....yet.

I started with unmarked, moved to silver lettering, changed it to gold and then, after 250,000 miles, applied the side stripes. Eventually, 10,000 miles later, after having the spoiler resprayed, I added the spoiler stripes.

Can't rush a good thing, I say :D

Thanks for all the replies. I just found the vinyl stickers in the Alpina E39 B10 V8(s) catalogue on p.27 and 28.

ALPINA-sign 360mm gold 51 00 224
ALPINA-sign 360mm silver 51 00 225

So is having vinyl stickers on the front spoiler considered to be more authentic and painted letters more aftermarket or are owners generally not that bothered? The moulded lettering on the front spoiler seems 'made' for painting on the B10, I think later Alpinas just had a flat area where the vinyl decals could be stuck on the splitter?

I'm not sure about the side stripes in blue and green, I almost think it would be better without them, although I think the treatment on the front spoiler looks ok.

Hi all, just browsing when I came across this post. Interesting to me for a few reasons. Firstly part of my job is cutting vinyl for a print firm I manage and I noticed the earlier reply that states;
Alpina sign - 360mm silver 51-00-225
I’m intrigued as I need new vinyl for my D3 Bi-turbo splitter. Is the above a RAL colour reference? If not which silver do Sytner use?
Secondly, I almost bought the white D3 in the pic, I liked the stripes but, knowing my indecisive nature, wasn’t sure if I would stick to liking them. Peeling them off after 6 months would feel wrong. I inevitably bottled it and bought a plain black one instead!

Hello Hector's Dad,

To be honest I was delaying posting until I had completed a full detailing of the car. Had it a year now and still not got that far.

Its a 2010 D3 BT no.93 in black with the spoke wheels and performance steering wheel.

I've seen many posts (not here of course) suggesting that I may get bored after a few months and wish I had bought a standard 330i or something similar instead, for the better spec and price. I will hear none of it, Alpina is a rare touch of class everyone should experience. Obviously everyone reading this agrees!

Pics soon...promise ;)
