Hi Perry much appreciated, downloaded successfully and now I just have to find my old supply of writable discs and writer. Will post up an image when I've managed it. I have the same screen as Asim at the moment but this is a very nice upgrade!PerryGunn wrote:I've produced the ISO for you and put it on my FTP server - you have a PM with retrieval instructions

I normally keep the drivers door open for this but I'm not sure if that's strictly necessaryMetrics wrote:Stupid question: How do you upload it to the car?
- Key in ignition position 1
- Wait until nav system has booted up
- Eject maps DVD
- Insert firmware CD
- After a bit of whirring and clunking from the DVD drive a message appears (briefly) regarding the software update
- Screen goes blank
- Software Update screen appears with a progress bar
- Once complete, it's followed by
- Click [OK] using right hand knob
- CD is ejected automatically, nav system reboots with new spashscreen
NB you can only 'update' with a firmware version that's different to the one that's already installed so, if you need to install a modified version of the latest firmware that hasn't had its internal version number changed, you first need to install an old firmware version i.e. downgrade first, then repeat the process with the modified disc to upgrade
To find the current version go into the settings menu and you will see SW x-y/zz In the upper right hand corner and it should say something like SW 4-1/00
SW x-y/zz breaks down as
x should be 4 indicating that it's a MKIV nav
y shouild be 1 indicating that it's the full colour 'high' nav system
zz is your current firmware version
00 = v31 or v32 (latest official versions, released in 2008, BMW didn't update the number between releases)
91 = v29.1 or v30 (BMW didn't update the number between releases)
80 = v28
71 - v27.1
70 = v27
plus you'll find others that tend to be 0(something), these are usually a v32 firmware that has been modified - when I create custom ISOs I tend to modify the internal version number of the firmware to 1002 so it displays under settings as SW 4-1/02

Good guess, I'm running SW 4-1/00 which has the plain Alpina s/screen (I uploaded it a few years ago). So if yours is SW 4-1/02 I should be able to just pop the newly burnt CD in and it will just add the new splash screen and I'll still keep the other features I have like the 3D view?PerryGunn wrote:To find the current version go into the settings menu and you will see SW x-y/zz In the upper right hand corner and it should say something like SW 4-1/00

I've been discussing this with Rav via PM....BarryM wrote:Perry’s instructions are spot on so which bit won’t work?Rav wrote:I cant get this to work
You can’t burn the image or can’t get the update to install?
He's following the instructions but still has no joy with a CD I sent him that I first tested on my mkIV nav. He has, as mentioned in his first post, been having problems with his nav DVD unit and has ordered a replacement laser unit - we'll see what happens once it's repaired.

No problem, feel free to jump in with advice - as my wife loves to remind me, I don't know everything...BarryM wrote:Didn’t mean to interfere but your instructions were perfect for mePerryGunn wrote:He's following the instructions but still has no joy with a CD I sent him that I first tested on my mkIV nav. Perry - Its my laser and not your CD/DVD or perfect instructions! Thank you once again for sharing and helping me.
I am waiting for my new laser to be shipped from China and will update you all once it is here.
