Autowatch Ghost Immobiliser

Post by b0ardgamer » Tue Jun 05, 2018 7:23 pm

Does anyone have one of these fitted? I'm considering getting one installed on my B4S, but the installer has got a "probably OK" response from the supplier and is a bit twitchy about proceeding. Fitting it in a normal 4-series would be fine, and I imagine the B4S hasn't got anything special electrics-wise that would change that, but I thought I would ask the advice of those more knowledgeable than myself (which is just about everyone here....).

I enquired about having one fitted to my B6. The installer was happy to do it. It just runs in the bus system of the car which won’t be affected by any Alpina modifications that I am aware of. I have read lots of positive reviews from people who have them installed.
It is not thatcham approved because it is not technically an immobiliser, it tricks the car into thinking it can’t start rather than causing a physical break in the the starting circuit which I believe a thatcham approved product has to do.
I feel this is more a symptom of thatcham not being up to speed with how modern cars can be immobilised rather than a slight on the ghost system.
I would be happy to fit one in the future.

Only the other day i was talking to my friend about the Autowatch Ghost as he has become an authorised installer. He said the ghost can work perfectly well on Alpina's and i'm considering booking mine in with him.

If anyone else is interested maybe we could do a group booking and i can ask if any discounts can be applied. The installation would have to take place in Coventry though.

I have looked into this but it doesn't appear to support the E46 models.

I have been sent the below that shows compatible models on which the Ghost can be installed, unfortunately the E46 is not listed.

Useful info, thanks. I've decided to get one installed. Sadly Coventry is a bit off my beat though!

My latest thoughts are to go with iTrack Ultimate (which includes a Ghost) from Phantom. I'm not 100% sold on trackers (would I want the car back etc), but at under £1k for a Cat6 tracker, with lifetime subscription + Ghost, it seems decent value (given a Ghost is £400 by itself). Especially since I intend to keep the car for 15+ years.

Hi
I have recently had one fitted on my work van along with electronic shoot bolts and decided to have one fitted to my f31 320d touring as well.
It takes a bit of getting used to as car won’t start with first push of button until you have keyed in your personal code using the steering wheel buttons, however I have quickly got used to it and think it is worth having for the added peace of mind knowing even if key is scanned the car can’t be started.

So guys spoken to my friend again and he is happy to offer us a discount on a group booking. Recommended installation cost is £400 but for us: more cars = bigger discount.

I'll start a list below on who's interested and say we give it a couple of weeks for feedback. Please bear in mind installation would have to take place in Coventry just off M6 J3.

I'd love to join the group buy, but Coventry is just too far away.
