I recently worked out my spend on this car and wondered has anyone else done so on their pride and joy.

Over 20k into my E30, easily. I've never added all the receipts up or kept track of the cash transactions though

I did this once and it was fairly terrifying. It's all about where you draw the line.

Do you include insurance and tax? How about depreciation? Fuel?

Even a fairly average motor will cost you 5k a year if you include those...some cars need 10k a year. Newer ones can lose that in depreciation in 12-18 months plus the running costs on top.

If the car is a long term own, the cost multiplies.

Personally, I prefer to consider the cost of running something average, then I look at how much EXTRA it's going to cost me over and above that to have something nicer! Great way to justify a B5 on the drive...!

I'm fairly sure with what I've spent on my B8 including the purchase price, it'd be enuff to buy a new modern Alpina

how much spent?

Post by Norrie » Wed Apr 25, 2018 2:36 pm

I think I have spent quite a lot of money, however it has been worth every penny. I never ever owned of driven (except for a quick go) any car as good as my ALPINA.

Therefore, all the time I can afford to do it, it matters not how much.

Not quite enough yet. But enough to buy a B3S, or the options I'd have on a new Alpina, including a full lavalina interior :-)

I've owned my E39 B10 3.3 Touring for 18 months now. Bought for £6.500 and I've spent £2,300 on it since then, excluding insurance, tax, petrol, oil and a set of Bentley manuals but including a radio upgrade and a spare set of carpet mats to preserve the original Alpina ones.

I've got spreadsheets and everything.

Hi all,

Bought my B3 back in October 2013 with 90k miles.

To the present day and on 114k miles currently, I have spent over £10k on servicing, repairs, general maintenance, preventative maintenance and cosmetics.

Tax, insurance, fuel costs not included.

May consider selling up next summer for a more powerful model.

Regards
Sat
