F31 D3 brake pads.

Post by Jay964rs » Mon Nov 06, 2017 10:44 pm

Hi,
Are the brake discs/pads on myF31 D3 specific to Alpina or generic BMW parts?
My reason for asking is I’ve been quoted £255 for a front brake pad change, I thought this was a tad steep.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I have the same challenge. Basically I am looking for a trusted place online that can supply Alpina specific aftermarket parts. Also looking for brake discs, but I cannot find info on the forum. Anyone?

The brake discs are standard BMW M sport brakes, made by Brembo, 370mm x 30mm.
I’ve looked into Tarox (expensive), and I’m going for M ‘Performance’ grooved and partial drilled discs which can be sourced from BMW.
I’m no further forwards on pad alternatives, so might have to go for the standard items.

Brakes update

Further to my original post, I went for standard Alpina pads and M Performance discs.
BMW Cotswold supplied the parts at a discounted rate.

Looks good.

Out of interest, what mileage were you at when you had to have the front pad change?
Nothing to see here.... move along in an orderly fashion please!

Mileage was 48000. I’m generally not hard on brakes but a trackday really tested them (my Tuscan failed noise testing).
I thought the mileage was pretty good for it’s first pad change.
The brakes do feel stronger than before, but that might be the fresh pads.
I think the discs look great behind the wheels. Subtle but purposeful.

Nice one Jay, I'll have to do this on my F31 when they need changing. Only approx 36,000 miles to go.
