Hi Hap,

I have Mich PS4 front and rear on my 04 B3s Cab - They were on when I bought the car and have done ~8k since installation, 7k in my hands. Grip and noise levels are fine and the tyres seem to be wearing pretty evenly.

I've almost exclusively used conti sport contacts on my other cars and the Michelins are comparable, albeit a tad more expensive.

Hope that helps,

Mike

Had to take a look at the sidewalls - it just says Pilot Sport 4.

Just replaced a punctured PS3 with a PS4 - feels spot on for the chassis and cheaper (and better spec) than a PS3.

As I understand it, the Super Sports are more like a semi-slick so are much better in dry warm conditions but throw in wet and cold and they perform worse.

Given the variable weather we have in the UK, the PS3 (and now PS4) offers a compromise over the Super Sports for all round performance.

Finally, the Super Sports are not available in 18", so are not an option for normally wheeled E46s.

I am currently on my winter set with four tyreless rims stored away ready for a full set of PS4 tyres in the Spring. Last summer I was running PS3 on the front and PS4 on the rear due to the different wear rates front to rear meaning I had to "upgrade" the rears earlier. Despite this mixed set up, the PS4 rears seemed to deliver better grip than before with smoother delivery away from the lights and better control through the twisty bits. However, a sidewall split on one of the rears meant I sacrificed the other last November, along with the worn out fronts. Looking forward to assessing the PS4 soon :D

I used the various iterations of the Pilot Sports over time in my E46 M3. Superb tyres. I did have Continental Contact Sports at one stage and simply did not like them.

I have Super Sports on the B6.

Not strictly true Charles - you maybe thinking of the Cup Sport tyre from Michelin which is a semi slick, dry weather tyre for track focussed cars.

SuperSport have been replaced with Pilot Sport 4S and both have a very high wet weather performance, although in tests the 4S is said to perform better. My B10 V8S had Pilot SS and now has 4S and it does grip better in the wet with the new tyre - but I had the geometry adjusted at the time of new tyres so this may well have made the bigger difference in grip.

My D5 BT had Yokohama tyres (shudder!) and now has new 4S all round - my goodness what a difference the 4S has made to the car!

Finally our TT has Pilot 4 all round and they are superb on that little car.

As you can see I'm a bit of a fan of Michelin - they did well out of me last year with these 3 full sets of new rubber!
