D3 Front coil spring snapped!!!!! joys of christmas spending

Post by hicky73 » Tue Dec 19, 2017 11:59 pm

So,,,, This morning i need to be in work early this morning to set up for a conference. as i pull out of my driveway bang and the front of the car drops on the drivers side. after a quick inspection i realise its the front coil spring has snapped. ive not inspected any further as its wet and dark but im assuming thats all it is. any ideas on part numbers for these and or any suggestions on alternative springs or should i stick to the standard Alpina spring set up on my D3 56 Plate.

A nice Christmas present for me though eh? on the plus side im glad it went in the driveway as 2 mins later i would have been driving on the motorway at 70 odd mph.
any help would be grateful and before anyone comments i will be changing both sides and not just the snapped one :)

Same spring as fitted 330 not expensive do a forum search and you'll find part number that's been put of.
Better replacing both sides if other one has not been changed

thanks sandy,
i've been in touch with BMW in Swansea and have been told they are standard, as in 320d msport. due you think this is right or are they just pulling my plonker? They did have my chassis numbers also.

if they are right then i'm thinking of getting a set of lowering springs from Eibach, HR or KW's. its new territory for me so im unsure now.

Be a bit careful. If you have given them the last 7 of your BMW VIN number, it will list the base model as a 320d SE and I suspect you will get the wrong springs.

The parts catalogue is the link below but helpfully says refer to 'spring table' that I can't find

Hi James,
thanks for the info. When i rang BMW Swansea they did ask for the 2 chassis numbers as he would have to cross refrence them over. im hoing he did his job properly.

i might give someone a ring in Nottigham Sytners tomorrow and see what they say.

No there right iv already changed both all the money is in the shockers.
The springs as just a BMW standard part fitted to a few models across the range .

for the price of 2 front springs which work out at £206 + Vat. would you not recomend or say that it would be fine to go down the Eibach spring full set?
front and rears complete and delivered are only £165.00. thats a 25mm lowered rear and 30mm lowered front.

im well confused now what to get
obviously i dont want to loose the stance the car has now if you know what i mean. it sits nice and level.

Don't buy from BMW.
Killen or lejoefer spring's about £50 each do the same job.

Hmmm, the exact same experience of hicky73 has occurred to myself!, only I just wanted to shift my car a few metres from its resting place.

The Alpina Parts catalogue was of limited help i.e. "see spring table" which is non existant.

Information provided by Sandyf is invaluable!

Using part number 31336767377, am plumping for Eibach springs as these appear to be shown in 'ausgabe' brochure.
