Suitable jack for D3MT?

Post by Fireflly » Mon Nov 13, 2017 8:21 pm

Hi everyone, following on from my post regarding a space saver for a D3MT I am now wondering about a suitable jack, I have seen various posts that concern trolley jacks, Porsche alloy jacks etc and I am wondering about the standard BMW jack that seems to be freely available.
Could someone confirm if the bog standard BMW jack that is listed commonly on ebay for @ £20 and fits E46, E90's amongst others suitable to be used on a D3MT, and also does the wheel brace often sold with it also fit? many thanks, Rob

I would suspect that a standard BMW jack would be fine. There should be rectangular receptacle at each jacking point under the car that would take a part of the jack. Trolley jacks are also find but ideally you would need an adapter so that the jack doesn't maul the receptacle.

I use a 1 1/4tonne trolley jack for my D3 with the adaptor like the ones seen here............

I use a standard Halfords jack and one of these pucks. I do sometimes have to drive the car up on to a concrete slab to get the jack in at the front.

That metal puck posted above seems better as the flat part of the plastic one I have doesn't sit as nicely onto the jack as being plastic it changes shape a bit.
