ABS Pump
ABS Pump
Hi all,
I had my DTC / ABS lights come up on my D3 dash the other day, ive still been driving with it on (just makes it more fun)
Ive just had a local garage have a look and they have quoted me circa £550 for the pump to be sent off / repaired and fitted. (and be off the road for a week+)
Just wondering if anybody else has had a similar issue, and would it be easier / cheaper to buy a 2nd hand one and fit it myself?
Thanks
Steve

Re: ABS Pump
Do you mean the module that controls the pump?vv3bby wrote:they have quoted me circa £550 for the pump to be sent
£550 for an easy D.I.Y job if it is the module

After being charged £55 for the diag check, this is what ive been quoted for;
"If the pump can be repaired the cost will be around £550.00 Inc VAT. Price will be confirmed once pump has been tested and repair cost checked"
ive been doing some digging on this, and so it seems a common problem on the older models (across the board of 3 & 5 series.)
ive been looking at purchasing one myself and swapping it, but my biggest issue would be if they have to be reprogrammed especially to match the alpina style (would anybody know if they are any different to a standard 320d?)

If it's an E9x series, then you could look at ECUTesting.com - used them in the past for an ABS repair - very good, quick, service and lifetime warranty. You may need to check the fault codes to make sure that they can repair. If it helps, I think I paid about £250 inc VAT, fitting was about £100.
Opps I did not know this when I posted: After E39 and E46 the module and pump is more like one unit, but can be fixed separately or together.DogWagen wrote:If it's an E9x series

Not sure if I agree with the logic of switching it off. I admit I’m no expert: when the unit is off – it’s still working silently but not giving commands to the main ECU, brakes, or other traction control components.ALPB1033 wrote:So now I don't drive with dsc on except on track.
My understanding, the module becomes faulty because the heat from the engine bay makes the solder weak and it starts to separate, this then causes no connection between the circuit, and hence will fail. Therefore it makes no difference to module if it is on or off, because in time, and due to the heat of the engine bay the solder will breakaway. I think a bespoke heatshield will protect the module better.
