An amazing car

I just cannot get used to the wheels, they look, well, like normal wheels. I know the reasons why they have done it but for me it just doesn't look right!

E46 330Ci
Golf VR6 loved for 7 years and then went bang at 7K rpm, sadly missed
So many other cars, faves below

Fiat 131 Supermiafiori
Mercedes 250CE Pillar less coupe (my first car!!)

I feel the same about the wheels. They just initially remind me of some of the replica classic wheels. I know there is no comparison but I always get that impression when I see them.

I wonder if this type will cascade down to the B3/4 D3/4 in the future.

This design appears on the 7 & 5 series, but does not look to appear on the 6 series or XD3 at this stage.

Just launched for 3/4:

6 and XD3 will follow for sure with the next generation cars.

I agree they're not such a nice looking wheel to my eye. For me it's not just the exposed bolt holes, it's the very flat face - the dished profile of previous wheels so much nicer.

Having looked at these they do look somewhat "aftermarket" rather than OEM.

I guess like most things new we will all get used to the change and see what happens.

One positive will be that after many years of driving on marshmallows (classics) the drop forged alloy wheels may be more resistant to our pot hole infested road network.

Yes, on an engineering basis the forged wheels will be lighter and stronger.
With wheels getting bigger with every generation, and the cars heavier, switching to forged was probably a necessity.
