Sytner no show (ALPINA) for Goodwood FOS 2017

Post by Norrie » Sun Jul 02, 2017 11:11 am

Just spent two days at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, disappointed that Sytner ALPINA not there this year? Anyone know why not? Strange as about 80% of customers are from Oxfordshire and further South? Seems like a missed marketing and sales opportunity?

Never mind, was a great show and BMW pulled out the stops, new 8 series, M sport 760Lxi, E31 840i from BMWCC member and 507. Roof top stand above café and complimentary refreshments for BMW key holders.

Their stand there last year was what convinced me to order my D3.

BMW were also at the stables area, great E31 there, the new 8 series and the 760i 0-60 in 3.7, now I will vote that Council in.

However ALPINA no show, why not?

Saw them at FOS last year, not the most exciting stand with all the cars covered in dust.
Perhaps they just wanted to avoid the cars getting dirty again?

A question was asked at a recent event at the RAC country club about the club having a private area at the FoS or the Revival. One of the motoring committee members said "not likely: one thing Charles March knows about is how to charge people!"

That's the most likely answer: it's effing expensive for exhibitors.

Perhaps they could come to the Silverstone Classic instead? I fear the FOS is turning into the equivalent of Royal Ascot where people go to be seen rather than watch the 'action'...

There is no doubt that exhibiting at Goodwood is not cheap, there is a balance between spending the money and the return on that operating cost. However, think seriously how few people know Alpina, let alone own one.

Many main dealers might have heard of them, that's about it. In previous years when Alpina had no stand, they good at least one car on the Michelin stand for example.

In terms of the Silverstone Classic I put the Car Club in direct contact with Jonathan Noy at Sytner Nottingham. I do not know what, if anything, was agree. However, this is peanuts compared to Goodwood
.

Got definitive answer about why ALPINA not at Goodwood, which was no new cars to show so not worth attending.
