Dashcams
after a couple of recent incidents I have decided it would be a good idea to invest in a dashcam, so any thoughts guidance and recommendations would be greatly appreciated, many thanks.

Hi mate
See my thread here:

I purchased the Transcend 220 from Halfords, it often goes to £100 in their deals:
http://www.halfords.com/technology/dash ... tsid:35522
Coupled it with this hard wiring kit (also available from Halfords) that piggy backs into the fuse board for auto on/off and its been good for over a year.

It's a big point to consider, however, with two incidents in a couple of weeks when I have not been in the car I think the trade off may be worth it!rodbargee wrote:Just a cautionary note, ones speed could easily calculated using objects that might be recorded on a dash-cam, as several motorcyclists have found to their cost. Obviously we all stick to the posted limits and only press the loud pedal on the autobahn!

Please take into consideration some of the newer dashcams are connected to satelite and record location as well as speed, this can be an advantage or perhaps a disadvantage depending on the situation you find yourself in.Avtar wrote:It's a big point to consider, however, with two incidents in a couple of weeks when I have not been in the car I think the trade off may be worth it!rodbargee wrote:Just a cautionary note, ones speed could easily calculated using objects that might be recorded on a dash-cam, as several motorcyclists have found to their cost. I have noticed the Blackvue cameras comming down in price with a basic hd version around the £120 mark
I have a video clip taken from my dashcam two weeks ago where I thought someone was going to die. Had that happened I would have recorded the whole event.
I'll see if I can post a link to the vid upoloded to my lads youtube site
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv_9VQAVG_c
Do not know if this link will work...but , here goes
Looks like it worked
I was on my way home in my D3MT passing through Talbot Green
when the old fella appeared crossing while his pedestrian light was red
and the traffic on the inside lane was green and moving. He stopped and I looked in my wing mirror and saw the dark car approaching then when I looked forward the old fella started walking and I had that OMG he's going to get hit feeling and screamed at him as you can hear with my window down. Don't know if he heard me or saw the car but It left me shaking for a while.
Friends are still giving me grief for the Uuuuuuuukin EEeeeel

I've been thinking about this for sometime, but yet to act. i Noticed a 4 series a few weeks ago with 4 dash cams mounted in it. Front, back, rear drivers and passenger windows. Had tinted glass so the side ones couldn't be seen, but to me i thought it was a good idea.
Then i costed it out. Unless i buy some cheapo £30 cams, its expensive. I know in the long term it will pay for itself, but when you have as many cars as i do, its very expensive.
So i looked into dual camera ones. The zoom lens gives shocking picture quality, so isn't worth it, and is only marginally cheaper than 2 separate ones.
Any suggestions? BTW, i want to hard wire them into the ignition.

I just use my Go-Pro as a daily dashcam substitute, otherwise it would just be unused in a draw waiting for the next track day which is becoming very infrequent these days.
Does the job, you just need to remember to turn it on and re-charge every couple of days.
