My highlight of the ALPINA meet - B10's registrations

Post by nealpina » Mon May 01, 2017 4:14 pm

Firstly I do apologise as I have forgotten the names of the people who own and travelled in the blue B10 3.3, but it was good meeting you

I walked past and I instantly said that’s my number plate. It took me a couple of seconds to realise the difference. Therefore we both decided to get a group photo of our cars

As couple of people said when we all talked about the plates, that these were registered at the same time but the build numbers is 83 and 87 which is and obviously a difference of 4, I however have the higher build number but the lower number plate by 1.

There is also another UK registered car on the register which is 85 which sits in the middle of our cars – does anyone know the original registration 85.

W336 TTV by my reckoning.

The only other 3.3 I can see with a similar registration is 054 with W83 SJU.

B3 coupe 036 is W998 SJU.

James

Nicely posed picture Neil. What were the chances of that?

Cheers greenelekta.

I was talking to another member about this and I agree with their comments that original registrations are registered in bulk and will be similar

I also have seen the same manufacturing cars to have a digit or a letter different in ascending or descending order (I'm sure that most car enthusiast are aware of this). A couple on my street have an identical Ford - and one ends in P and the other ends in a R IIRC

I think two E46 B3 or B3s Tourings have very similar registrations. Apart from those two, I will say that the only ALPINA cars which will have similar registrations are the original D3, because ALPINA built and shipped in bulk to Sytner. Again most ALPINA enthusiasts and forum members will be aware of this.

I just checked from W970 SJU to W985 SJU.

W973 SJU VW first registered 6 April 2000
W974 SJU VW first registered 6 April 2000
W975 SJU VW first registered 6 April 2000
W976 SJU BMW 2.5 Coupe first registered 1 April 2000
W777 SJU VW first registered 7 April 2000
W978 SJU B10 3.3 #87 first registered 1 April 2000 - I'm the owner and how appropriate it falls on April Fools Day
W979 SJU B10 3.3 #83 first registered 12 April 2000
W983 SJU Crane first registered 11 April 2000

There are some registrations which I have not mentioned because I'm unsure if they were ever registered or they no longer exist. However it made me chuckle that W983 is a Crane

Therefore to answer your question I do think it's low because #85 was built in the middle of our B10's, and has a completely different registration plate - as per James's above post. Also the date of registrations from W970 to W985 are not in any order.

Also greenelekta you were the first to see my level of excitement and my determination to move my car closer to the W979 lol

Simon, what are both of your registrations and chassis numbers?
