Dynamic wheel valve stems

Post by Wobblewing » Tue Apr 18, 2017 3:06 pm

Hi,

Can anyone please advise if the metal valve stems on the dynamics are Alpina specific, or are they the usual BMW ones?

I'm having my wheels refurbished (Roadster S) and it would seem a good opportunity to replace them.

Thanks
Andy

Ok, you just use what the tyre place puts back in? Metal ones?

Am trying to keep original :-)

I don't think they are TPMS are they? The Roadster does the tyre monitor thing, but I think it's done by measuring the average rolling diameter of the wheel (?) rather than measuring the pressure.

When I had my Roadster wheels refurbed, I replaced the metal valves with rubber.
All 4 metal ones were beginning to corrode :(

If anyone is unaware, the original wheel valves on the RS can cause a certain amount of bimetallic corrosion on the wheel alloy, to remedy this there are replacement valves available that have a plastic washer at the base of the valve to stop the corrosion. If you are having your wheels refurbished (or tyres replaced) these are a worthwhile upgrade

These cost around £7 each and can be ordered from any BMW dealer: Part # 91.47.3.610.086

Here is a pic to show the difference (old valve on left):-

And a pic of the parts breakdown...
you can clearly see the PTFE washer in the new assembly (upper items) used as the new interface with the wheel compared to the old stainless one:-

Ordered some today from local dealer...a couple of weeks to get them from Alpina. They seem alpina specific.
