Took the car to CPC yesterday for an oil change and left with a bill less than £100 (Admittedly I supplied my own oil, but even still ...)
As regular readers will know, this is somewhat unheard of for my car and I know it won't last as we found that the arm/sensor for the headlight levelling system had failed and the steering rack is finally beginning to weep. Didn't know about the sensor problem but was aware that the rack is going as the PAS pump was cavitating recently. The sensor has been locked in the "mid" position and the PAS fluid has been topped up to the max - which has eliminated the cavitating pump.
Both of these are planned for the next service (due in February) so that will be eye-watering - but in the meantime I am thoroughly enjoying making the most of what the car can do _________________ Charles

A lot of admiration for your dedication to your motor Charles.
Do you mind if I ask when you bought it and what mileage it was on? |

I've had it from new in March 2003 - every one of the 285k miles is mine _________________ Charles

That's the one.
In the case of the PAS pump, as the steering rack weeps fluid, the reservoir level drops until the pump starts to draw some air into the impeller. The bubbles of air rotate at high speed and cause internal damage to the pump - causing the system to seize. _________________ Charles
