selling my E31 B12

Post by nikm » Sun Apr 10, 2016 2:52 pm

Hi All,

Just wanted to say that, with a heavy heart, I've decided to sell my E31 B12 5.0. I haven't had it for long, and it still puts a smile on my face every time I look at it, but I have realised that I am becoming too nervous to use it (as much as I need to), in view of it's classic status! My wife won't drive it - she's become reliant on light power steering and parking sensors. I have also begun to realise how much I miss modern gadgets like DAB, Bluetooth, HUD etc.

I will be very sad to it go as it is a thing of beauty, but I can't justify buying a 3rd car to use for school runs and taking the kids to football matches etc - keeping the B12 just for sunny weekend driving. I have enjoyed my brief life as an Alpina (and 8 series) owner, and I now understand why these cars are loved so much by their owners.

It would be nice to see the car go to an enthusiast, but it's so difficult to value it as it's such a rare car.

I assume it's the car on eBay? Looks lovely. What price did you have in mind?

Hi Elan,

Yes, it is the one on eBay. It is a beautiful car and I will be sorry to see it go, but I don't think I'm ready for classic car ownership just yet - I need to get a house with a garage!

The car is very difficult to value, because it's so rare, so I've set the reserve price at £45,000 - but I'll sell for less to a forum member. I know it's a high price, but it got a great write-up in the magazine

I'm sure you remember that Sytner originally started advertising the car at £60k! They slowly dropped it, and I think the final advertised price was £40K? Classic Cars valued it at £37k - £60k, which highlights how difficult it is to price these cars because they're so rare. I don't think there is another in the UK with this mileage and in this condition - I haven't seen one advertised for the last couple of years. It will come with the balance (about 10 months) of the Sytner Select Warranty, and it's in excellent condition - both the bodywork and mechanically.

Thanks. I haven't sold a car privately for decades, and have never sold anything on eBay before! I'll see how things go with the auction, but in the meantime I still get to drive it!

At £38k now, with 3 days to run...
Early-retirement = too much time on my hands.

It is what the current market will pay for it.
What it was sold for previously is not that relevant with cars as rare as these.

...and to think I got slagged off for trying to sell it for £40K!!

Oh well, at least I got to own it for a while - it's a beautiful car but even I can't believe the latest asking price.
