Does anyone have any thoughts on the Sytner Select Warranty program?
Is it any good?
I'm looking at a used ALPINA at Sytner's and looking at to see if it is worth it.
I don't want to get the car home and be faced with any expensive repairs, as it's a long way for me to go.
I'm overseas at the moment, and trying to do everything over the email/phone.
Many thanks
Onzie

Hi Onzie,
All after market warranties are insurance backed, so on average, the premium you pay is greater than the average repair bill you will face. The problem is, it is an average, so if you are the unlucky person who's engine blows up, or gearbox fails, the premium will look very reasonable.

Sytner select warranty
I have used BMW Insured Warranty for my Alpina after the initial 12 months dealer warranty expired. I have taken the comprehensive warranty, but they also do a named component warranty (excludes electrics) and a driveline warranty which is basically engine, supercharger or turbo, drive shaft etc. You can buy with or with breakdown cover inc Europe and home start. It is possible to pay monthly for a 12 month policy.
If you have less than 60K on the clock when the policy starts the price is cheaper and if you have less than 100K on the policy when it starts it is still possible to get full comprehensive warranty. You can choose your excess from zero, 100 or 250 pounds premiums at tagged to excess.
This has been a great benefit to me, two rear boot opening cyclinders replaced, a control module replaced, sav nav hard drive replaced. Car would not start recovered from home, car would not start guy came a fixed it. Both of those due to module failure.

IIRC a "Select" car is a car that wont be able to be sold as an Approved Used example usually down to age, or lack of Service History
The problem is that for your Insured Warranty to remain valid (if you take it out after) then it doesnt have FSH within the network, which can lead to claims being rejected
Also, a "Select" car isnt as well prepared compared to an Approved Used one, or so i've been told
