Maybe that's why i'm concerned about adding the sunroof

Heated steering wheel... now thats just extravagant!

Sunroofs - i've avoided them as I feel they introduce more noise in to the cabin, but I insist on a light headlining and A,B & C pillars.

Looking at Spec'ing mine at the minute - what are going to be the desireable options later on in life? LSD / LED / heated, memory seats/SatNav etc?

Hello German,I owe you an apology,I am so used to driving with distance control,and you cannot run cruise seperately to distance control but there are 4 positions to set the distance on if that makes sense,just clocked another 450 today and IMO it doesn't seem to make a lot of difference if you could split the system,

a must have option with +500lbs is an LSD. It shouldn't be an option really but it is. To have any sort of proper traction in the wet or dry its a must. Especially if you like to get the hammer down when you can which tbh we all do thats why we buy these types of cars.

HUD is fantastic option

Agreed, heated steering is extravagant but i use it every day. It's like airco: once you have it...
Light headlining does not go with the spirit of the car in my humble opinion.
Sunroof, noise in the cabin: i paid attention to that today in my 520d and you are right there is some cabin noise generated by the sunroof. I never noticed until now

So probably no sunroof. I will have to live with a dark headlining and black seats... There are worth things in life...
Desirable options once the car is older? Probably comfy leather, satnav, HUD, LSD, LED

@Flareside: thanks for the clarification on distance control. Will probably not take that option even if it is a fantastic security feature. On our Merc the DC is driving me crazy and limits my freedom to have CC without DC

@Simon: LSD and HUD are on the goodie list. Does LSD have settings in the cabin when you want to use it or is it "always" on? Sorry have no experience with that stuff!!!

The easiet way to imagine it is this.

open diff gives you power to one rear wheel, which means the TC will interveen alot more as the unloaded wheel will try to spin up.

With an LSD you have drive to both rear wheels all the time. There for alot more traction which means less nannying from the TC.

imo LSD is win win. It should be standard fitment with the power/torque of the car imo. They used to be in the old days upto the early mid 90's

It also means when it snows you'll have a chance of moving! My wifes Z3 went everywhere in the snow thanks to the LSD from factory.

I'd quite agree with that statement. Mine have been worth every single penny and more. Didn't even get the traction control light flickering when driving through snow, slush, standing water - you name it, they coped with it.

I'm using winter tyres for 9 years now and they are worth every penny. Breaking is stronger, getting out of snow on a ramp, etc. It started on my Cayman S in 2006 and had them on all my other cars. On the D3 with LSD it should be a good package for the winter season.
