Nearly taken out on the M3 :(
Traffic was queuing on the inside lane of the M3 (the A34 junction at Winall if you know the area), matrix signs lit up saying "Queue on slip road".
I was at the back of the queue with my hazard lights on and there is an Ocado van closing pretty quickly, but they put their indicator on to move out. There's a car alongside them so they can't change lane, but they don't change speed and keep on coming.
Just before they hit me I get half onto the hard shoulder, otherwise it would have been an almighty crash. The dash cam caught it but because it's front facing there's not much on it.
I'm usually careful to leave myself a gap to manoeuvre in when in a queue. It saved me and #97 this time, that's for sure.
I can identify the van so I'll be contacting Ocado tomorrow. It's one thing to make a mistake, it's another to almost cause a serious accident when trying to change lane rather than lifting off the throttle and merging safely. Tosser.
Edit: think I've changed my mind about the complaint. I imagine the guy in the van probably soiled himself. Still in two minds about it, but there for the grace of God go I and all that.

It seems like a near miss, only because John was careful enough to
1) Leave a gap from the vehicle in front
2) Pay attention at the traffic behind him
3) Move his car out of the range of the "crash zone" in time

Agreed with you Marie-Noëlle but the following is confusing me:I_MNL wrote:It seems like a near miss
Therefore was it bump?John_C wrote: Just before they hit me I get half onto the hard shoulder, otherwise it would have been an almighty crash.
Oscar Wilde & Burkard Bovensiepen: I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.

I didn't report them in the end.
I chose to believe that the driver made an error of judgement without aggression or intent to bully his way out into the middle lane and has learnt a lesson about what not to do.
No way of knowing if that is right, but equally I've no way of knowing if the opposite is true either.
Cheers,
John
