Manual E36 B3 3.0

Post by ali » Sat Jul 13, 2013 1:53 pm

Busted or real? I don't know if the 3.0 B3 came with a manual box
It has an E39 steering wheel and squint badges on the boot. Can't see a plaque anywhere

The lack of a plaque means it's most likely a fake, I don't see why you'd remove that if it's legitimate. Also notice there's no underhood shot to see the VIN tag and whether the (difficult to fake) headers are there.

However the steering wheel is period correct for an early B3 3.0, and you could certainly get one with a manual. The B3 3.2 was also available with a manual from Buchloe. The entire body kit also looks right on, and it also looks like it has the wood trim around the door panels (hard to tell) which I thought was Alpina-specific? So if it's a conversion it's pretty thoroughly done.

I've come across the odd one where a previous owner had removed the plaque as a souvenir? The new owner of the car tracked this chap down and eventually paid him to have it back. Why the guy removed it for this I don't understand as according to the guys wife, it just sat in his drawer!

This looks genuine though, shame to make it into a track car.

Thats been for sale for more than 18 months, i noticed this almost as soon as i joined BMWCC, and that was 3 years ago!

It was grossly overpriced and yes it is a genuine one as when i was looking i spoke to the dealer and had the Alpina VIN off him, whether it was the VIN off the car or one he had from a donor, i'm not sure.

3.2's are available in Manual, just not for the UK market, Similar to 3.3's.

There are two B3 3.2 RHD factory fitted (not converted) manual cars, and hence are UK specification

The E46 was never sold in the UK as a manual

One is Alpina Green and lives in this part of the world. I believe the other is Alpina Blue?

I was unaware of this! When i was looking for one, i was told that 3.0L came as manuals but 3.2's didn't unless i wanted LHD!
