Never ceases to amaze me that people think they can sell a car with little or no effort to marketing it. It's not even that hard; good photos, plenty of honest and clear info, bit of jazz to sell the dream without overegging it, job done.

Ah, but what you have to remember is that most ebayers don't get beyond reading the listing title, never mind the detailPad wrote:Never ceases to amaze me that people think they can sell a car with little or no effort to marketing it.
For historical records, the top bid was £7200 (and below reserve)....a little low, maybe, but perhaps indicative of the market forces acting upon such a car. Bearing in mind a dealer would retail a similar car at around £10k, it's probably not too far away from the real private sale value of a decent B3S cab, even with low miles on the odo.

I love those eBay ad's!Pad wrote:Never ceases to amaze me that people think they can sell a car with little or no effort to marketing it. It's not even that hard; good photos, plenty of honest and clear info, bit of jazz to sell the dream without overegging it, job done.
I pick up the phone and ring the number and find out more. If a 'chav' responds with '...its a 1000bhp 318i se, Innit...' then i just give up, but more often than not, a nice suitable enthusiast picks up the phone and wants to tell you the whole life story of the car and then emails you all the pictures and details that should have been on the ad in the first place. Now you have the edge over anyone else that bids, if anyone else bids!
Then i end up with a B3 3.2 Touring for a very good price!

Mmm, having bought and sold cars in my spare time for over 15 years I'm pretty sure I could achieve around 10k for that. Whilst its true that the market determines the value of a car, maximising that is dependant on striking the right balance between salesmanship and technical knowledge in an advert.
And yes, the plate doesn't help, especially on an Alpina. I'd be farming that off to someone with an M3 and making a few more quid in the process
