indeed it must be said that during the winter months.. the meets go on regardless of the weather... amd although many of the dry weather ALPINAs stay at home locked away in garages the owners still come along

Wish I was a bit closer to the monthly meet.

A second car for wet weather would be nice. Or more to the point, one that uses a lot less fuel for the daily stop/start queues to work.

I'll second that Graham I only got 17.3 mpg on my last tank of V Power on the daily work run.

That's better than what I'm getting, Geoff. I'm averaging about 15 mpg and that's with some longish more normal trips in between. On one particularly bad day I reset the computer and got 9.4 mpg over 5 miles :( That sort of driving is not what the B10 is for.

Most of the time I tend to leave early for work to beat some of the traffic. Apart from the mpg issue, time in the office is more productive than time spent sitting in the car.

I'm off to Fareham now for Christmas, so looking forward to a decent drive for a change.

Have a good one.

Perhaps you ought to get your B10 looked at Graham, :? the worst consumption I have had is 22 MPG. I average normally 25 MPG :D

I set consumption 1 the day I picked it up in Germany and it is showing 26 MPG :D

And before you ask, I have a heavy right foot.

Hmmm, maybe I should, Brian. I had put the low consumption down to being in the lower gears. Even in manual mode most of the work run can be slow enough that I can only get into 3rd or 4th gear.

Cruising at just under 80mph for most of the way on a long run I get 28mpg, which I thought wasn't bad. Should I expect more than that?

i think Graham it all depends on the type pf driving you're doing... you're also still in the 'honeymoon' period with the car so the novelty of the power will still be there i guess... I know it is with me.

I get anything between 17-20mpg when hooning around or in heavy traffic etc.. and 25-28 on a long run..

so your MPG doesn't exactly sound unheard of.

That's reassuring, Andy. And you're right about the honeymoon period :)

It will be interesting to see if the next inspection makes any difference but that is some time off yet.

Why don't you guys let the engine torque work for the car. Usually on a long run I get about 450 to 500miles/tank crusing between 80/90mph. For the urban run I always engage the gear as high as possible as the engine is really fexible at low engine speed. My B10 3.3 can pick up as low as 900rpm in fifth and that is what Alpina is famous for : High engine torque at low engine speed.
That is one of the reasons when I brought mind during the test drive. Always remember let the engine torque work for the car not the car work for the torque when you drive slowly or cruising in the city. Then you should see there will be an improvment for the fuel consumption.
One more thing never use the cruise control as it drinks more petrol than using your foot unless you're drving in a speed limit control zone on the motorway.

yes James but your car is a 3.3 litre manual car and mine and Grahams are 4.6 litre Automatic cars
this makes an enormous difference to the economy...
