ALPINA racing in 2012

Post by neil » Thu Feb 23, 2012 10:37 pm

Just got confirmation today that ALPINA will indeed be represented in the ADAC GT Masters 2012 season.

They will be the defending champions so a lot of pressure !!

Here's the official press release:

In 2011 the great success of the ALPINA pilots Alexandros Margaritis and Dino
Lunardi delighted the fans of the ADAC GT Masters Championship. In a few weeks
the new season will start and the cards will be reshuffled. It is a matter of kudos that
ALPINA will again be part of the chase to defend the title.

The Lunardi/Margaritis driver pairing from last year is no longer, with Margaritis now
piloting a Mercedes. Instead, Maxime Martin will join Lunardi for the 2012 ADAC GT
Masters season in the BMW ALPINA B6 GT3. Maxime is super quick and a real GT
veteran, having scored a number of victories in the GT1 World Championship. He
is no newcomer to the B6 GT3, which he drove together with Claudia Hürtgen for
the first time in Oschersleben, Germany, in 2009, immediately winning the ADAC GT
Masters race twice in a row.

Andy Bovensiepen, ALPINA CEO and Head of Motorsport, is especially pleased about
the renewed partnership with Maxime Martin, who is closely associated with the
manufacturer of exclusive automobiles from Buchloe because of his father. Jean-
Michel Martin is the ALPINA importer for Belgium. “We are confident that we have a
strong driving duo with Lunardi and Martin, easily comparable to that of 2011, with
which we can fight for podium positions this season” said Andy Bovensiepen.

The BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 is well prepared for the new season. During the winter
break development on the car was on-going, with many details being revised in order
to be competitive in 2012 against an increasingly strong field of starters – including a
number of newcomers such as McLaren, Aston Martin and Chevrolet Camaro.

In 2012 the ADAC GT Masters promises to be even more diverse, faster and exciting.
The new season starts on 31st of March at the most northerly German race track,
namely the Motorsport Arena in Oschersleben.

Is the race car the new F11 or the usual one? No GB race?

Hi James

I believe it is a revised version of last years car.

ADAC GT Masters is predominantly German with a couple of races elsewhere in Europe.

The reason for the last minute race at Silverstone last year was the car was entered into the Blancpain endurance series - no idea if this will happen again - I presume last year was an opportune moment - perhaps the team they represented had 1 car down ?

Here hoping we get a UK race though !!

It would be good to see ALPINA racing in the Blancpain Endurance race at Silverstone in June
