My pleasure Simon

If you're heading south for work, I'll bet we pass one another each day then. Look out for the light blue E91 09 plate

I will keep an eye out. Usually do the high dyke each day down to the A1

Normally in a black X6 but do have the B3S today as a treat

The better half is going to call them today

So the roof fault came back again and following the advice on here she has been to Colin Woods.

Dan was great and diagnosed it then managed to source the parts needed without having to buy a whole new roof from the dealer.

It’s now back and all working and fixed for a reasonable cost.

Great shout on recommending Colin Woods. Dan is a nice bloke who clearly knows what he is doing, loves BMW’s and knows what an Alpina is.

I will definitely go back and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.cant believe I haven’t tried them before. It’s not like a have been driving past everyday for the last 10 years

Thanks again Mike

Hey Simon - what was the issue with your roof?

Mine has suddenly stopped working and not sure why. Have checked the usual suspects - boot closed, sensors, fuses, boot compartment...

The red light keep flashing and there is a clicking temporarily.

Hi raj

Mine was the micro switch on the drivers side locking mechanism. The bit that locks the roof compartment lid down when the roof is put up or down.

I have had the clicking bit before and that was the mechanism that is under the rear seat right in the middle. That is quite a common issue with the cogs inside it.

If you take the back seat out and apply some pressure to the box in the middle it might work. That would at least identify if that is the issue.

I had mine repaired s couple of years ago but when it was in Colin Woods recently for the other issue he replaced that part for me too with a used one. It wasn’t that expensive I don’t think.

Cheers,

I'll have a go with all of that later. I did investigate the box under the rear seat but not putting pressure on it.

Will report back!

cheers Simon.

I had a look for a switch in the mechanism but couldn't see anything that looked like a switch.

where is it? I was looking where the little hook at the front of the hood actually meets the windows frame - is this the right place?

Hi Raj

No it’s not there. I probably didn’t describe it very well.

It’s in the roof cover that lifts up at the back of the roof to store the soft top when you take it down. Mine was a problem with the locking mechanism that holds that cover down when it comes back down after the soft top has been put away.

This was the part on eBay if the link still works

Not sure if yours has the same issue.

Hope that makes more sense
