B3 3.3 E46 saloon number 165 - SOLD

Post by DentArthurDent » Sat Apr 21, 2018 1:04 pm

Update: sold in moments!

First registered 20.03.2000

118,917 miles with comprehensive history and many, many receipts. 5 owners including me. MOT until Nov 2018.

I've owned this car since 2012 and am now reluctantly selling it because it does not get much use. I've done almost exactly 20,000 miles in the last six years.

Its a stunning car to drive and it's always a huge pleasure to feel the power and hear the note of the amazing 280PS E4/4 Alpina engine.

The paint is Alpina metallic green and the interior is Montana light beige leather with wood trim.

The vehicle options are:

L812A National version Great Britain
S205A Automatic transmission
S256A Sport/MF steering wheel/cruise control
S279A BMW LA wheel without flat-running prop.
S302A Alarm system
S320A Deleted, model lettering
S354A Green windscreen, green shade band S403A Glass roof, electrical
S411A Window lifts,electric,front/rear
S428A Warning triangle and first aid kit
S431A Interior mirror with automatic-dip
S474A Deleted, front armrest
S481A Sports seat
S494A Seat heating driver/passenger
S502A Headlight cleaning system
S508A Park Distance Control (PDC)
S520A Fog lights
S521A Rain sensor
S522A Xenon Light
S534A Automatic air conditioning
S550A On-board computer
S661A Radio BMW Business (C43)
S672A CD changer for 6 CDs
S676A HiFi speaker system
S785A White direction indicator lights
S832A Battery in luggage compartment
S853A Language version English
S863A Retailer Directory Europe
S877A Delete cross-pattern operation
S880A On-board vehicle literature English S920A Alpina without title
S940A special equipment BMW Individual

During the last six years I've kept it regularly serviced and in good repair. Here's a short list of the more recent items:

2x new window regulators
Front + rear disks replaced
Brake hoses, calipers, pipes replaced
2x new tyres
Bonnet respray
New windscreen
4x wheels refurb
4x bilstein shocks with eibach springs fitted
New idle control valve
New diff mounting bush

The interior condition is good, barring some scuffing to the drivers seat on the offside.

The exterior condition is generally good however there is some age related corrosion on both rear wheel arches, the tailgate and front passenger door. There is also damage to the paint on the front spoiler. Having said this, these are not unusual on a car of this age; they will need attention.

Taking into account all of these issues, and the fact that I want a quick sale I am prepared to let it go for just £2,000. PM me if you're interested!

Certainly can't argue with the price
Bodywork will be a fair amount but a nice colour and spec

No idea what they have been using on the roads for salt this winter but it is the most corrosive substance known to man. It really won't help my aging E46. Think it's going tohave to get wings this year !!

I recall taking this one out for a test drive many years ago. It ticked quite a few boxes but I was not a fan of the chrome.

If the visible rust is like that, I wonder what horrors are lurking underneath. This is why my cars don't go out in winter

Too cheap?

Post by DentArthurDent » Wed Apr 25, 2018 7:35 am

... possibly I sold it too cheap, but I figured the bodywork and other miscellaneous fixes was going to cost enough to put it into the same sort of price territory as others for sale in good condition already. I wasn’t prepared to make that kind of spend. Hopefully the new owner will do it up properly before selling it on. But I would be surprised if it would get 10k even if the restoration was superb.

Probably about the right price, allowing for restoration work.

However, £10k "as is" is completely unrealistic and this car is likely to make about £7-8k once restored.

Has anyone been in touch with the dealer to ask about body condition ....? At £10k I would expect it to be concourse condition

Yes, apparently its in for bodywork at present.

If this was the case then why not mention that in the ad and why place a crap photo and then ask £10k for it? Does make you wonder what the finished item will actually be like and how good the repairs/renovations will be.
