Rolling, rolling, rolling

225,000 miles

- 9 times around the circumference of the Earth
- the average distance from the Earth to the Moon

... or the distance I have travelled in my ALPINA

Image

This equates to 360,000 km which, by my reckoning, is probably the highest mileage ALPINA out there. Just goes to show that a little bit of regular TLC and a large amount of regular driving are good bedfellows when it comes to Buchloe's best :D

Returns about 26mpg - don't even go there in terms of fuel costs - and still only uses a litre of 0W-30 every 3500 miles. Given that I wouldn't know what to change it for, I'd better have the camera ready for 250,000 miles 8)

phenomenal figures
How has the interior coped with the miles? Drivers bolster OK or has it needed TLC along the way too?

Passenger and rear seats are a bit grubby but look virtually new when cleaned up.

The driver's seat, on the other hand ...

Two jobs for the summer - two new front wings courtesy of predictable E46 front wing rust - and re-upholstering of the driver's seat because the doorside bolster is currently covered with a couple of bits of Duck Tape where the leather has worn through. Again, predictable after this much usage and just one of those bits of TLC needed.

I'm not complaining though :D

That's pretty good going considering most people these days think a car has had it after 4 years or 80k on the clock.
Mileage round up of the club maybe? Mine is nearly at 92k.

Next target to see must be 300k, or maybe your return trip from the moon

I don't believe in throwing things away or replacing things until they have either served their useful life or I genuinely need an alternative. When it comes to cars, I made a decision a couple of years ago that I would lose more in depreciation on a new (or nearly new) car than the cost of rebuilding the engine and then ongoing regular maintenance. Even with the gearbox rebuild since then, I stand by my decision.

Perhaps, but 250k miles is 400k km, so that's the next one. Then I am expecting another HG at about 270k miles (but that's just one of the costs of running a B3S). To be honest, these cars are fairly straightforward and now I know about the life of most of the components, I can start to plan for expenditure. No reason why 300k miles isn't achievable and then who knows ... :D

Charles I distinctly remember me saying not long after your purchase that you'd 'get to the moon before me', but it's actually at the same time! But then as the retired gent that I am and that "she's" been in storage awaiting sale for 11 months I reckon you'll get to the sun loooooong before me! Well done mate!
