Used my new made smoke machine on the Alpina and found an air leak where the icv connects to the manifold. Now have it on axle stands and am pulling the rear suspension and subframe off to renew all the bushes which should arrive this week. Got an a/c dryer coming as well.

Been busy today, turned my crusty old exhaust tips into something that looks a bit better. A monthly autosol should keep them looking decent.

Also been experimenting with tying to turn virtually white plastic exterior trim back to black as over the years I have not been impressed with anything I’ve bought and I’ve bought a lot of different stuff.

I have experimented on the X5 and these results are the most long lasting and cheapest.
Also fitted some new wiper blades, had a hissy fit cos my new bushes aren’t going to be here till the end of this week coming.
Thinking of using the time till they come doing a DIY refurb on the steering wheel, I had quite good success on an e46 m3 wheel which I refurbed and put paddle shifts on 3 years ago. Still looks good today.

Had a go at my worn, unable to make out the colour of the stitching, steering wheel. I can now, even see the Alpina badge reasonably clearly on the airbag.

Thank you for that. I’m always very nervous about jobs like this cos it’s such a rare thing to do. Must have read the instructions 10 times and then followed to the letter. Didn’t realise how much of an uplift it would give the interior to see the nearly as new stitching. Just impressed as well how a 20 year old steering wheel can be brought back to life.

It’s a labour of love, but as you are doing, patience and a methodical approach is just the ticket. These are well engineered cars using quality materials that do come back to life with TLC.
Keep up the great work Henry!

Fitted the LCI climate control panel to mine. Has made a nice difference to the interior ambiance. The LCI panel has backlit orange LED surround, so lifts the center console nicely. It's also gloss black, so matches the piano black perfectly.

Nice cars, look in amazing condition for the age, like the number plates.

Washed the dust off and polished. Jobs left :-
Get another alignment done
Fit a/c dryer
Get a/c charged up
Fit new headlight cover r/h/s (can’t get it to look like the new one on l/h/s)
Make up my mind if I should fit angle eyes
Go LED on interior lights
Fit new front indicator light on r/h/s. (old on glued in)
