E46 B3 Steering wheel issue

Post by Rav » Sat Oct 12, 2019 10:57 pm

All,

I noticed that the leather on my steering wheel feels loose at the top edge. It seems that the leather and whatever is under it, has come away from the metal ring inside the wheel. The leather and stuffing twist around at the top most edge. Its not bad yet, but i want to fix it before it gets worse.

Any ideas?

Mine does that too!

Only option is to refurbish or replace the wheel, I'm afraid.

I've got a spare steering wheel for just this eventuality - plan is to get one refurbished while the other is on the car and then swap. Like everybody else been told that Royale Steering Wheels is the way to go but I've not quite got around to it yet!

Isn't the issue with refurbs that no-one can replicate the parallel loop stitching, instead using criss-cross stitch?

I spoke to the guy who runs royal steering wheels at Gaydon about this issue. I told hi. If he could learn the process to replicate the Alpina stitching he would be kept busy with Alpina owners. He told me he would look into it but don’t know how far this idea has progresses.

I spoke to Btrim in Enfield about renewing the drivers side bolster on my B3. As he looked in the car he mentioned the steering wheel stitching which he said was difficult to do. Now I don't know if they can replicate the Alpina stitching but they might be worth asking.
