D3 BT , odd noise from rear when cold

Post by Simon Rose » Mon Jan 21, 2019 1:39 am

I get an odd noise from the rear of the car when cold . Does anyone else get this or have an explaination . Is it exhaust or axel ? It does not happen all the time and may only happen on faster runs.

Hi Simon,

Sorry to hear that you are having issues.

Perhaps a bit more description of the problem might help us to try and suggest reasons?

Here to help :D

Problem only seems to happen when the engine is cold and it’s a kind of droning noise coming from the exhaust or the rear that doesn’t last very long and goes away when the engine warms up
Very odd

If fitted it could be the butterfly valves in the tailpipes. They open and close at certain RPM. My E46 sounds meatier when starting from cold then once warm settles down.
