Welcome to the forum and a possible Alpina ownership. However don't forget the rust where they fit the rear spoiler if there is one. Otherwise not much problem with the straight 6 3.2l engine.

From what I have seen on the autotrader website it does look like an honest car. There is some lack of shine in the photos, but I believe this is to do with the camera and not the condition of the paint.
I have an E36 B3 which has the 3.2 engine. In total 608, 3.2 production engines were produced and IMO it is a wonderful engine because it is tight, solid and just rapid. Also the same economy as my E36 325. I also cannot recall any 3.2 suffering from excess oil consumption like that is found with a small number of 3.3 engines.
I would get a compassion test done, check or replace some coolant items (general BMW wear at this mileage), also other E39 checks such as suspension etc. If all these things are fine, then IMO I think you will have yourself a bargain.

Welcome bakerk,
I own number 174, Nov 98, so could soon be your neighbour.
As mentioned earlier, look out for rust problems around the boot spoiler bolts as I had to deal with this on mine a few years ago.
In just over 5 years I have taken mine from 54k to nearly 77k miles with no alarming problems. Oil consumption is minimal which is usually the case with the 3.2 models. Just recently I had to fit a new thermostat as the engine was not reaching temperature and a while ago the crankshaft sensor failed. Apart from this there have been the usual consumables to deal with such as pads & disks, belts and usual servicing.
All in all I still love the car and still get a buzz when I drive her so I reckon you will not be dissappointed if you buy one.
For insurance try Elephant as they gave me a great deal recently and this model is actually listed on their site which is a bonus and unusual for online quotes.
Good luck,
Jim
