Thank you for the feedback Hodge and Hector's Dad.

I collected a new BM-24 radio unit from the postoffice. Baris from Carphonics http://www.carphonics.co.uk/ had sent me this as my radio sometimes stays on when the key is removed and refuses to turn off. Occasionally, it wont turn on......

I felt proud of my work yesterday, so decided to clean the car today. A kind chap on Boxanet (yes i own a boxster too) gave me a snowfoam lance. I bought a Karcher K2 Pressure Washer for £45 from here: https://www.karcheroutlet.co.uk/

I cleaned the car, which was very dirty. I live in the countryside and the car is usually very filthy. Perhaps a Range rover would be better suited?

Whilst washing i noticed 'rainbows' on the driveway in the water. My children have been telling me that the car is leaking something - but i cant find the leak. I only topped the coolant up yesterday at the garage and the light came on again today. I have to use the car tomorrow for the school drop and then the chore of work and have a 5 litre bottle of coolant in the car. Something is leaking.......

The garage cant look at the car tomorrow, but I will drop it with them on Tuesday. Yet more expense is forecast.......

Ive made a excel spreadsheet of my expenses to date. I bought the car in May for £4.5k and to date my total cost to date inclusive of the purchase cost is nearly £7k.

I guess.....

£40k in 1999 would be £70k in today's money (Hargreaves Lansdown Inflation Calculator). so im not doing too bad.

Mrs Rav had to take the boxster to work today. Its a good thing we have three cars. I needed the estate to get the kids to school and then their clubs after school.

I will update you with what the garage tell me tomorrow.

Thanks rc944 - This might have to wait as I have a bill on my car just before Xmas....

The verdict has some back and I have to look on the bright side. The header tank has cracked at the bottom and this is where the coolant is all leaking out. Apparently some rubbing on something? However a new tank is needed. Approx £100 from BMW, but the front of the car needs to come off again to fit it....I am looking at approx £300 just before Xmas...

Should have the car back by the end of the week.

Collected my car from the garage.

As you might have read I have had issues with a leaking header (or coolant) tank.

This only started recently and was following the complete raditator and coolant system overhall. This included new radiator and condensor to get the air con working.

I asked the garage to keep the old parts (i always ask for this) and saw what had caused the problem.
There is a tiny pin hole which is leaking on the side of the main coolant tank. It is clear that what looks like a drive belt or pulley have worn a groove in the plastic tank causing the split and pin hole.

Now my concern is that this has been caused by not fitting the parts correctly when the original over haul was done.

Pictures are here or below if i can get the upload function to work.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I think you are right and you may want to run it past them to given them a chance to wrong their rights... report back when done but the fix is to replace the tank but you're right to be miffed

Thanks rc944 - i took the part back and the garage manager was really good. No quibble at all. He accepted that its their fault and they will replace the part. They ordered a new bottle from Hungerford BMW.

All is good. I will replace the BM-24 radio unit over Xmas with the replacement i have as the radio refused to go off on the way to work this morning. It means pulling fuses 7 and 41 which looks very dodgy in the centre of swindon in a multi storey car park.

I went through the magical 99999 miles and crossed over to 100000 miles on friday on the way to work. A quck pap of the horn and a stroke of the steering wheel to congratulate the old girl......

Bring on the next 100k miles (like Charles!).

Look after them and they'll look after you - but you still have a little way to go to catch up

The 100k barrier although just a nice round number is strangely frowned upon in the UK as meaning the car past it’s best by many car owners it’s seems.
At least here we can prove there is many many miles left in these cars if looked after and maintained correctly. I know of many cars well in excess of this mileage (my current and most of my previous cars included) that are running on perfectly well and are kept in better condition than some lower mileage cars that are around.
Charles’s car is living proof that they will go on and on if the owner is committed to the running costs (which is way less than depreciation of a new car).
I think this logic is just a hangover from pre 80’s cars where most cars were lucky to see the 100k on there odometer.
Enjoy the next 100k now Rav.👍🏻

Thanks all for the kind words. There is something in the mind about a car with over 100k miles.......

The garage replaced the header tank and the plastic part it is mounted on for free. However, the car is still leaking coolant. :(

I moved the car today (Xmas day) to allow family to park on my drive and noticed that the dash showed that one of the sidelights was out I then saw that the indicator on the same side is permanantly on......
I am not a fan boy of the euro look, so will try to replace the sidelight bulb tomorrow to see if the issue goes away.

I am hoping that it is a saftey feature, if a head/side light is out the indicator comes on permanantly on the same side.......

Can anyone confirm?
