Re: B3.3 - Head Gasket?

I’m sure I just answered this somewhere else, a very good result really, amazed if it was injector "o"rings that you didn’t smell fuel. Unless as it leaked it washed oil and crap of the side of the engine/undertray area. Hope you have a good run now, a week at least. :D

Re: Alpina B3 3.3 Coupe no 88

A good result really, if the injector seals failed I’m amazed you didn’t smell fuel. Are they talking about the "o" rings or something else.

Re: Lanciaa

My son had one, the 8 valve. Another car we should have kept, even if it was the most unreliable piece of s*^t ever. It wasn’t a car that you got out of and walked away, you walked round it to check what had fallen off and where the leak was coming from. I rebuilt the engine twice, it ran well after...

I’m almost finished the m3, afraid I’m fairly anal about it and strip pads out and copper slip, clean inside wheels, engine compartment and generally faff about till I’m happy and the cover can go on. While fiddling thought I’d ask on here if anyone had ever come across the "spats" that Alpina used ...

Freezing

Here I sit freezing my extremities off in Cumbria. Have had the electric off for 3 hours so no heat and back to candles. Mind you, I was 10 years old before we got electricity in our house in Ireland but I was young and didn’t know anything different so one coped. I’m old now soft and weak with mode...

Re: Bits & pieces

Thanks guys, I’ll definitely go for the Stat and pump, don’t want to overheat this thing, will take the belts off and spin the pulleys. Nobody seems to mention the gearbox thermostat but I doubt it will last any longer than the engine one. Thoughts?

Bits & pieces

My new headlight glass/plastic covers arrived today along with angle eyes and the a/c dryer, just LED’s for main beam and fogs to come. Will get round to fitting when I’ve finished tarting up the m3 for hibernation. I swear the more you read the more paranoid you get. Does anyone change thermostat o...

Should have mentioned the other great benefit is that the gearbox oil runs cooler as well,

Re: Fan

BarryM, quite agree on the 4.6 running very hot, hence it’s reputation for leaking coolant from pipes, valley pan and bursting header tanks. Done some research and BMW’s reason for running such high temperatures is to improve emissions and fuel consumption. I changed the thermostat to ordinary inste...

Re: Fan

It’s a fairly common thing, the viscous fan is replaced by an electric fan from a manual 330. This plugs straight into that auxiliary fan socket. You can then get rid of the aux fan. Advantages are the engine warms up quicker, as fan doesn’t run until coolant reaches a set temperature, removes the l...

Re: What did you do in your ALPINA today?

After finally resolving why the rear toe wouldn’t come within spec I took it back for another alignment. Which went well up until I was driving home and noticed the steering wheel was off line. Went back and was sorted immediately, to the point a car was taken off the machine and mine put on and sor...

Re: What did you do in your ALPINA today?

Fitted LED’s to interior lights including boot, front sidelights, got nice white Xenon dipped beam but it just makes the fogs look even more yellow. Got 6 LED’s left over, don’t know where they’re supposed to go. Perhaps the newer versions have lights in the door bottoms. But, not complaining only c...
