Re: B10 OEM windscreen replacement

once the car got to 140mph the wind noise went from pretty normal to absolutely horrendous, hadn’t a clue why until I asked a guy dressed in full BMW race gear if he would drive me round the track. As soon as he hit 140 he immediately told me my windscreen wasn’t fitted square. There you go Jim, be...

Re: Confused by Cleaning

Maybe not for the purist but try the Farecia G3 clay mitt instead of a bar, available from Halfords amongst others as it really makes claying easy

Re: B10 OEM windscreen replacement

This is standard practice when replacing most E39 windscreens....the number of threads on other forums about badly fitted E39 windscreens is quite high :(

I'm impressed your insurance company are paying for a dealer fitting Jim - who do you insure with?

Re: Repair & Servicing - One Solution

I have recommended Lee Shannon in the past, he's based in Bentley, near Farnham, Surrey. Tel 01420-520880. I've been to him on a couple of occasions but the first time was to replace the chain guides on my B10 V8 and he did a great job including photo updates and kept to his original estimate and ti...

Looks like you've got the bug again Jim, lots of stuff being done to your car - you'll need to start driving it again too :)

Re: B10 power steering hose leak

I've not replaced any of my power steering hoses but they are known to leak on pretty much all E39s (mine have a film on from time to time that I wipe off). Many people cut the end off the hose at the P/S reservoir end and use a regular hose clip instead of the BMW Oetiker clamp but I'm not sure tha...

Re: B10 OEM windscreen replacement

Here you go, a great thread that covers this is some detail, plus the BMW instructions for download: https://forum.bmw5.co.uk/topic/107287-windscreen-wind-noise/ I had all this to hand........first fitter I decided not to wind him up with the instructions but offered the rubber spacers and he refus...

Re: B10 OEM windscreen replacement

That sounds like good news Jim but I think the fitting part is a bit of a lottery! I used Autoglass this year and they were very impressive over the phone doing lots of checks to make sure they got the right screen but after it was fitted I had more wind noise so got them back a few weeks later, to ...

Re: B10 registration plate

So Barry what’s the reg ? Any pics with it on the car Well, with apologies to another member I copied them so mine is B10 YEP (can't recall who's thread I was reading who went with the B3 version and the Search function didn't help me to find it). I haven't ordered the plates yet as I really want...

Re: B10 registration plate

Well I've finally bought myself a B10 number plate after 7 years.....I don't like to rush things :D When I replaced the number plate shortly after buying the car (because it was a bit tired) I managed to order one that had the original Sytner and Alpina logos at the bottom - think it might have been...

That sounds like a really annoying incident and we all get wound up from time to time, but these days you never know how dangerous or stupid the other driver might be so take it easy. I’ve been thinking about a dashcam for some time but don’t think anything for your phone is a worthwhile substit...
